Light rail line 1: the value option

The Bybanen stop is on the lower floor of the terminal. Line 1 runs through the southern suburbs to the centre, taking about 44 minutes end to end, and stops at Bystasjonen for the bus and railway station, at Nonneseter for the station-side hotels and at Byparken, the terminus beside Torgallmenningen and Hotel Norge. Buy a Skyss ticket in the app or at the platform machine before boarding; the airport is within the city zone, so a single is enough.

The light rail suits the station-side and fish-market bases directly. For Bryggen it leaves a walk of about ten minutes from Byparken along the harbour, fine in dry weather and less fine with two suitcases in November.

The taxi rank is outside the terminal and the run to the centre takes about 20 to 30 minutes in normal traffic. Fares are metered and high by most standards, so a taxi makes sense for a family with luggage or a landing after the light rail thins out. Timing the arrival around the fjord day

West-coast fog and wind delay flights, and the fjord departures do not wait. Land the afternoon before a Nutshell loop, never the same morning, and give a Mostraumen cruise at least three hours after a scheduled landing. For departures, allow an hour from the centre to the terminal by light rail and thirty to forty minutes by taxi, plus the airport's own check-in advice.
